We're talking about values🌟
Also, it's soup season and we are sharing one of our favorite recipes!
Temps are dropping, post-season baseball is in full swing (see what we did there) and front porches are lined with pumpkins. It’s officially the last quarter of 2024. Let’s finish the year strong but not neglect taking time to enjoy the process.
Career Advice: Live Out Your Core Values
In today’s fast-paced workplace, it’s easy to get caught up in meeting deadlines, hitting targets, and advancing up the ladder. But at the core of success and fulfillment is something deeper: our personal guiding values.
These values shape how we approach our work, interact with others, and make decisions.
When we align our professional lives with our core values, we create a foundation for sustained satisfaction and long-term success.
Here are a few reasons it’s important to identify, understand, and live out your values—and some tips to get started.
Why Values Matter
Values act as a personal compass. They guide you when making tough decisions, help you stay true to yourself. Understanding your values leads to:
Satisfaction: Working in alignment with your values brings a sense of fulfillment, even during challenging times.
Better decision-making: When you know what’s most important to you, decision-making becomes easier and less stressful.
Resilience: Values provide a solid ground when navigating changes or uncertainties in your career.
3 Steps to Identify, Understand, and Live Out Your Values
1. Distill Your Thoughts
We are going to ask for a little help from a friend.
Open ChatGPT. Ask yourself: What is Truly Important to Me?
Write: Release a stream of consciousness. No particular order. No editing. Just spill out your mind into one long message about all the things that are important to you in life.
Before you hit “Send” insert a prompt: Based on the following text, generate the list of my Core Values.
ChatGPT will bring your chaos into order and create a list of your Values. It won’t be perfect but it will be a solid place to start.
2. Identify Key Values
If the prompt didn’t give you quite what you were looking for you can download Brene Brown’s list of values HERE and circle the top 4-5 that resonate with you.
3. Live Your Values Daily
The next step is integrating them into your daily work life. Here’s how:
Align with your company: Evaluate whether your organization shares or supports your key values. If not, are there ways you can find or create alignment?
Set boundaries: Ensure that your actions and decisions are consistent with your values. If you value work-life balance, for example, set boundaries around your time.
Revisit and adapt: Your values might evolve over time as you grow. Periodically reflect on your values to ensure they still align with who you are and where you want to go.
Understanding and living by your values isn’t just about personal growth—it’s about creating a more meaningful and fulfilling career and LIFE. By aligning your work with your core beliefs, you’re setting yourself up for not only success but also a career you can truly be proud of.
What are your guiding values? How are you living them out in your career? Take the time to reflect—it’s worth it!
