Summer Strategy: Treat yo self and thrive

Discover how small rewards can lead to big wins

The Summer solstice is coming this week! Thursday will be the longest day of the year and we’re working to rebrand summer from thoughts of summer vacation to a mindset that maximizes our time thanks to the increase in daylight hours. That 5AM sunrise looks better in that light, doesn’t it? ☀️

Career Advice: Treat Yo Self 🍦💎🛥️

At N’goodcompany, we are marching towards some BIG GOALS and we’ve made things interesting (and fun) by creating a milestones and rewards system. The framework is simple, reward yourself when you reach a milestone. The key is to map out your milestones and corresponding rewards to super charge your efforts.

Here’s how we did it:

  1. Make a list of milestones leading the way to your desired success

  2. Make a list of things or experiences you want but would not invest in under normal circumstances

  3. Match a reward to each milestone based on your understood value of each

  4. Get to work!

Example of reward to milestone mapping

To put our money where our mouth is, here are two of our personal milestones and rewards.

Kenna: When I grow my monthly income by 20% I’m going to purchase an at home sauna. 😅

Brooke - When I reach my new monthly income goal I am going to treat myself by asking my financial planner to invest 15% per month and save 20% per month. Hey investing in your future is #sexy. 💰️

We’d love to hear about your milestones and rewards! Reply to this email to share. Who knows, we may even share our favorites. 😊

Tell Me Somethin’good:

Rally Pickleball club is serving up a top notch employee engagement program.

@Dcpickleballteam via giphy

The club opened in Charlotte, NC, in 2021 with a mission to reinvent the recreational experience by adding culinary delights and fostering community. Cool, right? Even cooler, they’re all about creating a compelling company culture — what we call the Diamond Experience because of the three C’s 😊.

Rally uses a monthly employee NPS survey (NPS = net promoter score, a metric for customer satisfaction) to keep tabs on employee sentiment.

We love this approach for three reasons:

  1. It gives employees a regular feedback mechanism, making feedback a core part of the culture.

  2. The monthly rhythm allows leaders to respond quickly to changes in sentiment.

  3. Annual surveys are just snapshots, while monthly checks give a true picture of the company’s health.

Thinking about implementing an employee survey? The most important thing is to act on the feedback. The only thing worse than not having a feedback mechanism is having one and doing nothing with the results. We call this #changetheatre Don’t be that company!

Weekly Poll:

Does your company have a regular employee feedback survey?

Fun Fact, last week we asked how you would grade your organization’s current onboarding program and the results were a three-way tie 🤯 That tells us we still have more investing in human capital to do.
